My 7 year old was thrilled when Santa brought this guitar for Christmas. It is beautiful and he is excited to learn to play it.

excellent deal for the price
By J. Allen
I am giving this a 5 based on price and what you get for it.If you do not have the patience to mess with the intonation and a few other issues,I'd recommend not buying it.Other than that, with a bit of effort it can be made quite playable. The intonation on mine needed some work. Instructions for doing that are available for free online, and it is not difficult to do.If the tuners seem loose, you can tighten them by tighening the screw holding the knob.Do not tighten too much or you may shorten the gear life.New Gotoh tuners can be had for about $30+.The finish is nice, but like everything else nowadays, it is a real fingerprint magnet, especially the black one.The strings are not great, but not that bad either. This thing is holding tune very well so I am leaving them on for awhile.I ordered stainless strings because I don't like getting metal oxide on my fingers, but haven't installed them yet.The fit and finish are good, and the neck is very nice. There was some sawdust under the cover plates not removed at the factory, but it's easy to rectify. You could not get a neck this nice for $50 anywhere, except if you got one of these. It's not perfect. The frets look pretty good and the edges of the finger board are nice.I've seen way worse, and where I live it's pretty dry, so even a properly finished set of frets will start to stick out from the neck eventually.I like this guitar as much as any cheap Fender. In fact, the neck is nicer.I think cheap Fenders have a bit better pickups. These pickups are not terrific, especially the single coils, but they do work. The humbucker seems better than the singles.Buy a Fender Mustang I combo amp, instead of new pickups. You can make anything sound way better with that 20W amp and still save bucks. It's way better than the cheap 10 or 15W amps that come in beginner kits. The stands, bags, and other assessories in kits are junk that you can do better on.Definitely upgrade the strings to Ernie Ball Slinky or better. It should be noted that no decriptions of this guitar mention that it comes with some Allen wrenches and a decent amp cable--a ~$10 item itself. This guitar weighs about 6.1 pounds and is pretty comfortable. The neck is wider and thinner than a cheap Fender, and in my opinion feels better. The two knurled metal knobs look better than the photos and would cost at least $10 themselves if you had to buy them.I added a spring and tightened the tremolo bridge to stabilize it somewhat.I did try the tremolo out and did not get way out of tune, but certainly it will not help tuninq.I do not intent to leave the tremolo bar on, and may take steps to lock the bridge later, but for now tune has held for the past few days after initial breakin. All the little stuff is fixable, and a guitar shop could do a tuneup, which even many more expensive guitars could use. This guitar is also great for salvaging for a custom project, or if you just need a neck. This guitar is great for someone who will end up not using it anyway. It is also an adequate instrument to learn on.I have seen people who really want to learn, and people who really can play, do well on a much worse guitar. This includes people who you may think of as stars.Musicians Friend, the seller, ships fast, and the items arrived safe and sound.Note: elec guitars with big pickguards mount the electronics, knobs, switches, pots, and wiring, to the pickguard. On types like this, without a pickguard, electrical components are installed through the body. Not a big deal. A small pick guard could be installed to protect the finish, but it is not really necessary.Disclaimer: I am not a pro or even a great player. Just stating what I know, and some stuff that should be in the descriptions.PS--the cable that came with the guitar looks better than the one I bought on the same order. I ordered one because the description did not mention the amp cable. The amp cable that came with the guitar says "high grade professional low-noise". Yeah right! I just plugged it in for the first time. The noise is very bad. Guitar is working great though.
