5First to Review? After All of this Time?
By A. L. Green
I bought this processor for a new build consisting of a GIGABYTE GA-970A-UD3 AM3+ AMD 970 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX AMD Motherboard, Cooler Master Hyper 212 Plus 120mm Sleeve CPU Cooler, RR-B10-212P-G1, and Corsair Vengeance Blu 8 GB (2X4 GB) PC3-12800 1600mHz DDR3 240-Pin SDRAM Dual Channel Memory Kit CMZ8GX3M2A1600C9B. Of course there's a case, power supply, all the normal stuff, but I think this is what's essential for this review...If you have any experience with computer building, or are simply starting and willing to learn, you should be fine. This isn't my first build, but it is my first full build in a while. Over the years, I've just refurbished older machines and they've worked fine for me. However, I finally broke, and put together a relatively new system. I normally try to stay a step behind the industry since I know that Hardware will continually supercede software--hence why I decided on the older (and, in my opinion, proven) Athlon II x 3 455, triple core processor.I did quite a bit of research before purchasing this processor, since I wanted to ensure its longevity.(Overclocker/Nerd Minute)From other people's experiences, this processor, with the proper cooling (better cooling than simply a Hyper 212+ with one fan) has been noted to get to 3.9+ (not quite 4) GHz across three cores. And yes, as you may know, there is a fourth core that can be unlocked on this processor (although it's not guaranteed to be stable for any period of time). The max speed I have read about with the fourth core unlocked and stable is 3.7 (not quite 3.8) GHz. Of course you're going to have to raise voltages and ensure proper temperatures (below 60C, I believe--don't feel like looking it up again)......I bought and received this from a third party seller in about three to four days (I asked for expedited shipping, since I hadn't realized that the rest of my items would get here in two-days until after I bought everything else to go with it...trust me, I did so much research that by the time I settled on this processor, I didn't want to go back through researching again). A big part of my research had to deal with building a modern system (3.0GHz + Proc, 16GB RAM, Modern Video Card) but not spending an exorbitant amount of money. I'm a casual gamer, yes, but the games I play, Civ 5, Sins of a Solar Empire, [soon to be] Battlefield 3 have a ton of calculations, etc...and I wanted to ensure that my computer would be capable today, tomorrow, and for the next few years. For my day to day activities, I really could've stuck with my old Gateway with a 2.2GHz AMD 4200+.Ah, yes, Intel was never in the running. Their processors aren't fun to me (can't OC anything in budget) and their prices are not particularly pleasing either. In addition, throughout my tech career, I've had more issues with users powered by Intel, than AMD...might just be coincidence...This brings me back to the price of a potentially quad-core 3.3GHz processor: <$85 (with shipping). Beat it? I don't quite think so.The Athlon architecture should be more than enough for most people, and enthusiasts with money will probably not even read this review...thus, I continue......Right now, with the fourth core unlocked, this processor appears as a Phenom II x4 (Propus Core). It's running at 3.6GHz and staying around 32C (based on Speccy). Thus, I have a quad-core 3.6GHz Phenom II x 4 for <$85.In contrast, a Phenom II x 4 960 (@ 3.0GHz) is $124 here on Amazon... that's a forty dollar difference. With full disclosure, you do get an 8MB L3 Cache with the PIIx4 960... so... Is it worth the extra cache (wonderful pun, by the way)? Under high intensity calculation, I'm sure it is... Outside of a benchmark, I'm just not seeing it. This is something else I looked into during my research.I'm not proposing that my processor with Athlon is comparable to Phenom under any sort of competition...yet I am proposing that the capabilities of the Athlon would be more than comparable under normal usage situations...I figured since no one else wrote a review, I would...but I don't see much more I can say. If you're looking for a performing processor for a tight budget--this is it.Hopefully, this helps...Any questions, feel free...

5Best Value
By Rattle_The_Cages
This is the best processor for everyday computer use. Only computational extensive spread sheets and computer gaming, or equivalent CPU intensive software would benefit from a more expensive and higher end processor than this one. This processor saves energy over the expensive higher end processors. This processor has a max wattage of 95W while the highest end processors consume 125W or more. AMD is a great company who out innovates its behemoth rival, Intel. However since Intel is a giant compared to AMD, AMD must offer their processors with a greater value for the customer. This means that the customer will get more processing power and less energy usage for the same amount of money spent on an Intel product. This processor requires an AM3 processor socket on the motherboard. However, if the BIOS on the motherboard support this, and most do, this processor can be placed into an AM2+ socket motherboard. This is because this processor contains circuits to drive both DDR2 and DDR3 memories. If your motherboard supports core unlocking, it is likely that the fourth core can be unlocked in this processor resulting in a quad-core processor for the price of a three core processor. Many non-OEM motherboards support core unlocking. (These are motherboards that do not come inside fully built computers such as computers bought from Dell.) Here is one example of a motherboard that supports core unlocking. Asus Socket AM3+/ AMD 970/ Quad CrossFireX/ SATA3&USB3.0/ A&GbE/ ATX Motherboard (M5A97)When this processor is bought in a retail box, such as this review is attached to, the box contains the processor, a heat-sink and fan. During normal use, this fan is run at a low RPM and is quiet. During normal use this fan is run at a low RPM and is quiet. Only if the CPU is used for a CPU intensive work load, to cool itself, this processor will increase the fan's RPMs to a point where the fan's noise is noticeable. For its processing power, less energy usage, and value, this processor receives 5 stars.

5Clark Kent and Superprocessor
By Steve Robbins
Psssst! Listen carefully. There's a nasty secret about these X3 processors you really need to know. Hidden deep in the heart of most mild-mannered Clark Kent, X3 455 processors is the snarling soul of a Phenom II X4 B5 beast! Buy yourself a motherboard that can unlock the fourth processor (I bought a Gigabyte GA-970A-UD3) and if you are fortunate (most people are) you have an instant X4 B5. Some processors are unstable when the 4th core is unlocked. If that is the case, you still got what you paid for, and it's still a good processor. But if you, like I did, unlock the 4th processor and find it perfectly stable, you now have MUCH MORE than you paid for. But don't say it too loud. This is just between you and me. Nobody else needs to know.

4An Excellent Card Overall
By P. Killion
Like usual, the backstory: I have a HD5770 on my gaming rig, and its proven to be a very capable card. I can run most games on max, the latest games on high, and has generally proven to be just a great all-around card, or so I thought. My wife is currently going to school for architecture/interior design; up until recently, most of her work had been by hand, but now she's beginning to get into heavy AutoCAD and Google Sketchup usage. I figured my card should be able to handle most of it (since she is still doing entry-level work), but things went downhill quickly when she began working on a large hotel-lobby in Sketchup, as well as a performing arts school. Her computer would take 10 minutes just to swing around the view (she was running onboard, her graphics card had fried); moving to my rig was a major step up, but then errors began to occur. Shadows would come and go for no reason, it would freeze and crash intermittently, etc. I tried working through Sketchup help and most said my card should be fine for usage, but there were just too many errors.Well, we purchased the FirePro V4800, and things improved dramatically. Despite her only having a dual-core processor in her system compared to my quad, her computer could now run Sketchup/AutoCAD smooth and essentially flawless, far better than my system; if you do really really heavy 3D, you'll need the next step up, but for most who aren't rendering 10-story buildings, this card should probably be plenty. Now, this doesn't improve rendering times (which is why we're looking to upgrade her CPU soon), since rendering is typically CPU-based (in Sketchup, she used the Podium plugin), but for overall workings within the program, it was a huge leap forward. So, save your sanity and buy a workstation card like this, not a mid-high end gaming card. However, this is one flaw, and its a biggie. Due to the general political nature of business, Nvidia has garnered deals with many program developers, and certain programs (*ahem* Adobe Premiere CS5!!) will see no benefit to an ATI card, and only work with Nvidia for graphic acceleration. We went with the FirePro because hardware-wise, its far more capable then the current Nvidia offerings price-wise, plus I didn't care for the many calls of poor manufacturing by PNY for the Nvidia workstation cards, but it is a trade-off. If AMD were a little better at playing the field, they'd be winning the GPU market hands-down. I will say, they've gotten a lot better about their OpenGL support, and their software updates have become regular (almost too frequent), but I think it shows they are working to improve their weakpoint (their drivers/software).So, I don't regret buying the card, and it is very capable for my wife's usage, but I would have been ecstatic had it worked for my usage (video editing with Premiere). *Edit: I just looked into it, and Adobe has only certified a few very expensive models of the Quadros to work with Premiere, which is way outta this card's price range anyways; you can technically hack the cheaper Nvidia cards to use the Mercury Engine, but still, kinda lame.Quality-wise, its very well made. The fan is solid and quiet, its not a bulky card but is very capable, and it has DVI/Displayport outs (displayport for workstation monitors, higher resolutions, and multi-monitor support).*And just an aside for those confused about this card, this is a workstation card. The primary difference between a workstation graphics card and a consumer/gaming graphics card is the handling of DirectX and OpenGL, as well as certification for certain programs (which costs time and money). DirectX is typically used for gaming, and is what consumer/gaming cards focus on primarily. OpenGL is typically used for 3D modeling programs (such as Maya, AutoCAD, and Sketchup), and workstation cards are geared towards OpenGL performance/stability with a more complete library and being certified to work with those programs through testing. You can get a better/cheaper card if you're looking to game or not into 3d modeling by buying a consumer/gaming card.

5Incredible performance for little cost!
By buyer46584
This workstation card means business! I was blown away by the improved performance when dealing with any sort of 3D graphics, from CAD to Google Earth. No lag, no processing time to render 3D views on the fly with textures and shadows, this thing just flies right through it all. I upgraded from a Radeon HD3600 512mb, and there is no comparison how much more this card can handle and how much faster it is.(Windows Aero Graphics Score improved from 4.8 to 7.0)Conclusion:If you do any sort of 3D modeling production work or similar I highly recommend this card for a huge performance upgrade with little cost.System specs;AMD Phenom II X4 2.8ghzAsus M4A78...6GB DDR3ATI FireGL V4800dual DVI monitors

5Video Card
By NWI Tech
I was expecting a high WIN7 Experience and got a 6.9 out of 7.9 rating. Not bad, but was hoping to go over 7.0. Not sure if going over would make much difference in what I would see, and can't complain. Video is smooth, with tracking across the screen, no hesitations, colors are vibrant. 5At $279 this was practically STOLEN! Ignoring the speaker, I'm AMAZED.
By Anonymous
I bought this laptop purely out of the compelling nature of the Amazon Lightning Deal price of $279 plus the specifications of the unit (since then it seems they've made the deal price the standard one, for now). I own a computer service business, so I know exactly how to research laptops for potential purchase down to the component level, and here's why I decided to make the buy:* CPU: It might be a cheap Celeron, but it has a 1MB cache and 64-bit capability, and is based on the Core 2 processor; DEFINITELY far more powerful than any netbook, and in my tests it plays 720p high-definition H.264 video clips without a single hitch. The lower cache is also somewhat mitigated by the dual-channel DDR3 memory.* RAM: 2GB of dual-channel DDR3. Enough said. It's the latest and greatest kind of memory, and there's enough to get most typical things done. You could even run Photoshop if you wanted, and it'd be fine.* Hard drive: 160GB SATA...pretty small by today's standards, but it's way more than most people will use, including myself since I have a desktop for all the big stuff.* DVD-RW drive: YES, IT BURNS DVDs. Very compelling, particularly since netbooks' main missing feature is an optical drive.* 15.6" widescreen: you can easily buy a laptop for $300 more and get a smaller screen. The image is crisp and I absolutely can't complain. The resolution is really good, also. Plenty of video real estate to get things done.* Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit: 64-bit! Not Starter Edition! Not Vista! What more could you ask for? (Also, Linux works great on it; I checked!)* This thing isn't a 17" laptop, yet it has a numeric keypad! Not a full one, but just the fact that it has the standard 0-9 and Enter matrix in the proper place is amazing, and awfully handy for keeping those pesky financial records! Some people will not like the lack of a webcam, but the most annoying compromise is the sound. While you can easily connect a set of speakers and get wonderful sound, the built-in speaker is mono (there is only one speaker), very quiet, and has a very poor response range. It's sufficient for hearing sounds such as a mail notification (if ambient noise in the room is low), but it's insufficient for almost everything else, including listening to music. Honestly, most people could care less about the missing cam and pitiful speaker, especially at this price point. It's powerful, it gets the job done and does so at great speed, and the feature list is absolutely shocking for a $279 unit. If I was evaluating this at its "normal" $399 price, I would advise coughing up an extra $100 and buying a dual-core unit with 4GB and a 320GB hard drive instead, but the $120 off makes this an absolutely unbeatable offer. In fact, I've already helped three other people purchase one since mine was delivered and I evaluated it first-hand.If you get this at a good price, you absolutely won't be sorry. Just buy it!

5A great basic, get the job done laptop. Super value at $279
By W. cun
I ordered the laptop using my Prime account on Monday and it arrived two days later, as promised. The laptop comes in a simple, cardboard eMachines box with basic instructions: Put in Battery, Plug in, Turn on.Upon opening the monitor, I notice shelling is made of a thin, flat black plastic. A little on the cheap side, but this laptop is not meant to go off-road. Acceptable. The monitor is wide and very crisp. I was very disappointed in the video card. Granted, it is an integrated 4500M, but the resolution display cannot go any higher than 1366x768. I like my icons and screen to appear smaller, so I can essentially fit more onto my screen. The keys are well spaced and firm to the touch, so there is no accidental key-pressing. There is also an integrated accounting key-pad on the right, something my previous Compaq M2100 did not have, a plus for accounting/econ majors. The power cord seems pretty sturdy. Unlike my previous Compaq which was victim of a weak neck, the power cord is a 90 degree plug and reinforced with thicker amounts of synthetic plastic/rubber. Finally, the laptop weighs in at 5.65 pounds. This laptop will be used for basic everyday use: Internet Browsing, Mail, Social networking, remote networking into work, MS Office and Videos/Music. I do not plan on using any photo or movie editing programs. I was able to browse the internet a bit. I checked my mail and social networks. The laptop seems efficient, but when I attempted to run two tabbed windows (Car Forum and Ytube) at once, one of the windows (YTube) crashed! Luckily, it was quickly recovered Windows. Not a big deal for people with patience, but I always run multiple tabs so this might be a problem in the future. The laptop comes with Windows 7 64-bit, a plus. It also comes with a 60 day trial of Microsoft office and Norton antivirus.Overall, I really like the laptop. It lacks power in the dated Celeron processor but makes up for in a strong wireless 802.11b/g/n card, a nice sleek monitor and 160GB available hard drive for storing movies, music and pictures. For $279 (Amazon Lightning Deal), I am very satisfied with my purchase!*EDIT*I was able to fool around with the new laptop some more last night. In total, I used the laptop for about 1.5 hours, MAX. The first 60 minutes comprised of basic internet browsing: Fbook, Amazon.com, and YouTube. Since I did not have available Wi-Fi, I tethered my HTC Snap. Sadly, because I was in the hills of Hollywood, I got very poor reception so my internet was sluggish. I skipped the YTube and stayed on Meebo for some chat.My next laptop session was later that night at my apartment. I picked up the apartment's Wi-Fi quickly and web pages loaded normally, but nothing phenomenal. The wireless card works well, as expected. As an avid music junkie, I noticed the Mono-speaker is VERY under powered. I opened Pandora while I was cooking in the kitchen. The noise from the overhead oven vent clashed with the weaker speaker from the laptop. The speakers in my old Compaq M2100 were much stronger. Granted, they were stereo. However, if you have a pair of headphones, watching movies on a plane, car ride or late at night easily solves this problem. After I shut down, my battery life read 57%. Not bad for about 1.5 hours of web browsing and music streaming while using a mixture of Tether/Wi-Fi. Let me also add, whenever I am not plugged into AC power, I set my screen brightness to the lowest to conserve the laptop's power.Again, I STILL believe this is a GREAT laptop for the price.

5Excellent deal
By Sami Ben Grine
This looks like an Acer Aspire AS5734Z-4512 NoteBook except it comes with a single core processor (Acer owns Gateway and eMachines).I am expecting accessories to be well supported and compatible between both brands. At $279, this laptop is an excellent deal. Ordered on Wednesday, delivered before noon on Thursday. The laptop is lightweight (lighter than my 13" Apple MacBook) and responsive (DVDs play seamlessly). It just takes a couple of minutes to configure it. I was able to connect my WPA2 Wireless N network with no issue. The power adapter accepts up to 240V and the power cord is detachable - this should be usable in Europe.A webcam would have been a nice addition.Pros:Large and bright screenFull keyboard with keypadWindows 7 licenseMinimal bloatwareIntel processor and video chipsetReasonably fast and responsiveUp and running in two minutesReads DVDs out of the boxBattery comes half chargedCons:Single core processorNo webcamLow powered speakerKeypad skews keyboard to the right

4very nice
By B
I love the product. And it actually came with more stuff than I had expected. But be careful cleaned it, I used the gentle cycle and some of the treading came out. Not to big of a deal but just a little disappointing.

5Wanna disappear??
By Stephen S.
Hands down the best camo pattern on the market for hunting out of a tree stand in any season. Mossy Oak this. Real Tree that. They look real good.....up close. But at 20-50 yards? You just look like a dark blob in a tree. I can afford any camo made. Not that I would be dumb enough to pay for some of the junk out there. But I could. And I choose Nat Gear. I had 4 hunters walk under me last year. Never saw me. And I was maybe 15-17 feet high. Take my advice. Dump the hype and big advertising by the "best in the industry". Get what works.

4not bad for the price
By clint
i wore this all season this year it fit over all my layers and was surprisingly quiet with a slow pace.i like the pocket holes so you can reach your pants easily,my only complaint is the short sleeves but with my hunting coat on i just pull them up and dont really notice.makes a good fall/winter suit as long as you layer up well. im 6'1" 225 lbs and it fit me and my layers as much as id expect it to

5Amazingly flexible tool
By browny21
I have run a audio visual / video business for 25 years. With equipment constantly changing, it is tough to find a box that is compatible with SD and HD equipment. This is it! From component video to SDI, this has an amazing array of outputs / inputs, and you can upconvert / down convert from SD to HD if you want. Expensive but worth it.

5Nice Bag!
By NJSlim
Gator 12 x 24 Inches Lightweight Mixer Case (G-MIX-L 1224)I'm totally pleased with this case. It weighs nearly nothing empty, came with some spacers and dividers which velcro to the inside of the case however you like, and the zipper, handles and strap work as they should. The case is snug at 12" x 24", so if, like me, you want to carry something (pedal board, in my case) of exactly that size, you should allow for a strap or something under it, or you'll have trouble getting it back out. I stuff the outside pocket with a volume pedal and a couple of small guitar stands, and things seem ok, so far. The case is new, so I can't comment on how it'll hold up, but for light back-of-the-van use, it seems great. I sure wouldn't try it as flight gear, and I'd be sure it was on top of the pile, so to speak, in a truck, but it's a great little carrying case. My pedal board is a bit heavier than an equivalent sized mixer, and I feel confident with this bag.
