ABS functions do not function, and warranty repair takes weeks
By xyz
Purchased OTC-3111 tester primarily for ABS on my 1999 Chevy after thorough review of other scanners' options. After connecting the unit, it was not performing - was not retrieving ABS codes which corresponded to actual problems, and simulated problems.Although the unit was consistent in retrieving ABS code problem, clearing-erasing the trouble code, however the codes were incorrectly designating different troubles.Prior to purchasing of it, one of online another tool sales company salesman informed me, that despite of OTC - manufacturer tech support representation, no matter what they say, OTC-3111 was not going to do ABS, just engine only.Following that info, I've asked via email and received from OTC tech support assurance that OTC-3111 IS SUPPORTING my Chevy. Now can say that salesman was correct, and that he must have gotten info directly from OTC right people there -better than mine.Contacted OTC for warranty repair, obtained RMA with shipping label and send the unit back.It has been already 3 weeks, and they still did not enter the unit onto their system. It is going to take at least another week or much longer, if - if I ever get what supposed simple purchase of functioning ABS trouble code code reader with resetting of the code. They were assuring me of short turn-around time - 7 days, shipping new ones in 24 to 48 hours, but that has turned out all as OTC misstatements.Problem is, that they (OTC) do sell much more expensive units for ABS, starting at about $800.00, to &7500.00,but they have simply little or no interest to sell functioning ABS unit, and actually their interest is not to sell ABS troubleshooting tool for $250.00 to broad consumer base like do-it-yourself-er.Instead they want you to purchase one of those pricey one, on which they make much much better deal then on those for DIY.That is the fact gleaning from how the system of sale, advertising, and actual resolving the matter of bringingthe unit sales to what is being advertised. OTC is quite deceptive and illusive.By the way, OTC and ACTRON are subsidiaries of the same company: SPX.And they are going on and on without much other solutions for the consumer with these sort of business practices.I would NOT RECOMMEND purchasing low prized OTC units at all as this OTC-3111, until their business practices get changed.

Product OK, Company Deceitful....
By Patrick of Concord
Product is easy to use but their tech support is bunch of "dorks". First I purchased an Actron CP-9580 that claimed to cover ABS on 1996 and newer US made cars, when I called tech support they said " Oh, that model does not support all, only some, vehicles". OK, so what do they recommend will support my vehicles? They say the OTC-3111 will cover my specified vehicles, and they say that's the only difference between the CP-9580 and the OTC-3111. So I ordered the OTC-3111, and sure enough it did not work with my 1998 chrysler vehicles. So maybe I need to update the tool to a new version, installed the Scan Suite 3.1 but it would not recognize the Scan tool so I can't see if it is up to date or not. I called tech support again. The response, " You don't need to update because there is no update". Ok but I need this connectivity issue fixed so that when the update comes I will be ready. He says " The update is going to a looooooong time to come so don't worry about that now." Huh?????The Scan Suite is flaky at best, causes windows errors in so many points. The tool may suit you if you don't care about pc connectivity or if your car/truck is not one of the supported vehicles. BTW, their website says my vehicles are supported, though in truth NOT.They need to be more forthcoming to be respected.

OTC 3111 review
By dansamga
I did a lot of research because I did not have a lot of money to throw into a scanner. I have 3 different cars (2004 Town & Country, 2005 300, 2002 Astro). Works great on all of them. I learned while researching these tools that you should check the supported cars list BEFORE you buy a scanner so I did and was happy with that. Don't listen to people complaining that did not check for their year make and model prior to purchasing. The OTC-3111 ($159.99), the Actron 9580 ($248.44), 9580A($209.99) and 9580AL ($229.99) and the Innova 3150 ($149.00) or 3160 ($179.00) are the scanners in the sub $300 price range (Prices given were the Amazon.com prices when I purchased in November 2012)that claim they can read ABS system codes. The reviews for the Innova ABS customers were all terrible and the customer service was rated ever worse. That bummed me out since I really like the Innova system and was all set to buy one when the reviews at AMAZON made me stop and research a bit more. There is bad review or two for this unit but I had a great experience and it reads my codes well. There are a lot of braking system codes out there and you may need to look up more info for some of the codes but at least you know what they are and what the computer is seeing as causing a problem. This is because there is less of an industry standard when it comes to brake codes as compared to OBD-II codes. I can't blame any of the manufacturers of these units for that. Unit came equipped with a nice case, quick start guide, CD with associated software and the FULL User's Manual, a nice long 6 foot cord to connect to the port in your cars and also a cord for connecting your device to your computer. There was some bitching about updating the device in the reviews posted so I went to the OTC site and they do not have an update for this unit. Mine was manufactured in late 2011 so I would not expect it to be any more current than this but I am sure they will do some updates in a year or two to read more current model cars. I would buy this unit again. It is not a professional code reader - it is a fairly inexpensive code reader that I think provides the most bang for your bucks. That is the way I shop so I am happy. I would have been equally happy with any of the Actron 9850, 9850A or 9850AL units because they are the same device as this OTC 3111 but they cost $40-$80 more. Good luck out there hope this has helped you a little.
