For what it is: five stars

First off, please note that this is not a professional level guitar. For those of you new to the world of musical instruments, you'd need to spend upwards of 5 to 30+ times more to get a truly great instrument.That being said, it's been my experience that instruments in this price range can vary from playable to tortuous.This little honey of a bass is very playable and my daughter has enjoyed it tremendously.Pros:The sound is deep and well definedthe neck is straight and thin enough for small hands to get around onthe action can be brought down quite a bit without excessive/distracting buzzingthe size is great for 8 year olds and up and is well balanced - not too heavy eitherCons:the output of the pickups is rather low, compared to my Aria Pro II bass, it lacks 'kick'Overall, this is a great beginners bass and if I were starting out in a band, I'd have no problems playing out with this instrument.

Very nice starter short-scale

I bought one of these as an introduction into the world of short-scale bass guitars. The body is alder, the finish was very nice and even. The single-coil pickups have a very good tone. The only weak spots I saw were the hard-plastic nut, and pots/jack, which isn't unusual for an instrument of twice this price. I recommend changing these to improve your sound quality, but it's not a requirement. Good starter instrument.
