The best guitar upgrade I have ever made!!
By BlueTweed
I have been searching for that Tone. That elusive Fender Strat tone that frankly, I can't afford to purchase in a new Fender Stratocaster guitar. This Gold Lace Sensor Pickguard contains that damn Tone! This set-up is an outstanding option for your strat upgrade or whatever! It was almost shocking to discover how much tone I now have in my Mexican strat! I have been playing Fender Strats for most of my life and I can't believe I wasn't using these in the 80's or 90's when they were put in many top of the line Fender models. I have a set of Fender Custom Shop 54's in a Partscaster and that was my favorite set up and sound until I bought this pickguard! The pickguard itself is a nice 3-Ply like a Standard Strat pickguard. I will have to admit that when I first looked at the electronics and wiring, I immediately thought it looked like the set up on an SX or Xaviere strat style guitar. I will say that the pots are not those small dime sized pots you might find on an SX or Xavier, but are standard size pots. This thing is quiet as well. The Fender 54's seem to have a slightly higher output than the Gold Sensor pickups. Think of the guitar sound on Chris Isaac's "Wicked Game" or just about any Pink Floyd/David Gilmour tone along the lines of the Dark Side of the Moon album or the song "Shine On You Crazy Diamond. I'm probably sounding like a crack pot, but these Gold sensors are cool. You will need to solder the wires from your guitar's output jack to the Volume pot, and there were no instructions about how to do this. I have purchased a lot of things through Amazon, and they send me emails asking me to review those purchases. I can honestly say that I have not been impressed by any other purchase as much as this one. The price is pretty good. The tone is awesome! Those You Tube videos are a good place to check out some of the tones available, however I will add that the videos don't do the Gold Lace Sensors justice. BlueTweed.

Great tone, quality product overall
By Eric
Regarding the pickups, the Lace Sensor Gold stands out to me as one of the best pickups on the market for its near-noiseless tone, and its unique look (no pole pieces). It has a smooth, clean, glassy Strat-like sound and is virtually noise-free. Note that the Lace Sensors are not considered to be hum-canceling pickups; they achieve near-noiseless sound with two techniques: Their design includes magnets that don't need to be as strong as other pickups, so hum is less noticeable; also, they have shielding which blocks out hum. I've had experience with Fender Noiseless, Seymour Duncan, and Kinman AVn-56 pickups, and compared to those, I'd say these are some of the best pickups I've heard - Definitely better than Fender's Noiseless pickups (which I think are weak and muted); I think the Lace Sensor Gold is similar to the Kinmans, although I think the Kinmans are somewhat higher output, and the sound is slightly different, which is a matter of taste. Also, I like a noise-free pickup, and the Lace Sensor Gold tops the Seymour Duncan pickups, in my opinion. As for the pre-wired pickguard as whole, I find this to be a quality product overall. Looking at the underside of the pickguard, it is simple and wired together very neatly and cleanly with minimal wiring, making it an easy fit into the guitar. The 5-way pickup switch feels somewhat flimsy to me (very easy to move between the different positions), but I don't think that's a big deal.I only gave this 4/5 stars because if you're buying this for a Mexican-made Stratocaster, the screw holes might not all line up. That happened with my Mexican-made Stratocaster, and I ended up taking my guitar to a guitar shop to get it installed properly. They said Mexican Stratocasters have slightly different screw hole locations and that this pickguard is probably designed for American Stratocasters. The tech at the guitar shop said he'd move the components into a different pickguard that's designed for my guitar.Overall, this is a good product; just beware that the screw holes might not line up with the ones in your guitar if your Stratocaster is not American-made.
