4Rheem inducer unit
By shore thing
The unit arrived promptly. Before installation I spun the fan and discovered the fan blade struck the metal cover making a clicking sound. Removed the cover and slightly bent the offending blades, good as new. Bad quality control from China . Not surprised! On the positive side, the foam gasket that came with the unit seems to make the sound from the fan less noticeable at start up. It's 100 degrees here, but I'm ready for winter.

5this is somthing you CAN do yourself
By be serious
Ruud furnace dating from 2003 developed a scraping noise when initially starting, before the burner ignited. Treaced it to the "draft inducer." This part has three fans in it and is designed to get the air flowing though the chimney before ignition. The inner one was scraping. Probably a bearing. Looked up the part online to get the part number, saw the price, and ordered it here saving about $100. It is easy to replace, just detach one hose and three wires with clips and remove four sheet metal screws, plus any attaching your ductwork. Take a razor blade and remove any felt from the old gasket. Replace and install in reverse order. New gasket is attached. Might have to drill holes for screws on stovepipe, but depends on how the installer did it. Couldn't be easier and saves BIG bucks. The Rheem part was an exact replacement.

4Better replacement than OEM - Shipped pretty fast
By Jim Helfer
The fan went out in my furnace one morning this winter. The only people that new anything about this appliance in my house were out of town that week and I had to call a repairman to look at it. He diagnosed a bad blower motor, and wanted over $700 to replace it. (Not including several other parts that weren't broken but he wanted to replace anyway). I sent him away and started searching the part number. Ordered the part on Wednesday afternoon, it arrived on Saturday morning. Pretty good for only having the option of "expidited shipping. Having an option for next day would have been nice (an a necessity if the outside temperature had been 20F rather than 40F). The replacement unit was an exact match for the old one, including a replacement gasket. The only difference was that this fan case was metal, rather than plastic. It took less than 10 minutes to install, only requiring a basic socket set and a screwdriver. Been working like a champ for a month now, and you can't hear the motor at all unless you are in the mechanical room. Very satisfied.
