Definitely helps to get a better signal

I went from .69 Mbps download speed to 1.3 Mbps. Almost double! I use this panel antenna on the outside of my RV. I attached it to a piece of PVC which is in turn attached to the ladder attachment point on the top of my RV. I have it connected to a MiFi 4510L. It took my EVDO signal from -89 dBM to -65 dBm. Works in nasty weather too. It also brought in a 4G signal that I couldn't touch before. Problem is the 4G signal is borderline so it isn't faster than the high quality EVDO signal. When you install this, don't assume the tower with the best signal is the one you should go with. Some towers are overwhelmed so always use a place like speedtest.net to test your throughput once you find the towers with good signals. I went with a tower with a slightly lower signal strength but the actual throughput is better.
