The Sterling Audio ST31 is an FET small-diaphragm condenser microphone that features a mid-size (3/4") capsule to make it perfect for miking acoustic instruments, amplifiers, drum overheads, and more. The ST31 mic's thin, 6-micron evaporated gold Mylar diaphragm is optimized to capture the most definition and detail from all acoustic instruments like piano, drums, and guitars. A great sounding 'cheap' mic.

If your looking for a good sounding mic for recording acoustic guitar, this one is it. Set it about a foot away pointed at the 12th fret, and WOW! Or, hang it over your right shoulder, pointed at the strings just in front of the bridge. You don't get that boomy, cardboard box sound you get with the other mics in this price range. This mic has a warm bottom end and a crispy, airy top end. It rejects room noise well, and it doesn't have any discernible 'self-noise'. Even better, buy two and x/y them. That's what I'm going to do.

For the cost of these mics, you really get a ton of bang for your buck! I bought them originally to use as tom mics and various other drums. I bought five total and they ended up being so crisp that they often doubled not only on drums and cymbals, but on bridge and necks of acoustic guitars as well as recording dialog for film. They're great on the road, being built like tanks and have a great sturdy construction even against the occasional stick hit or drop. These are amazing for any live or recording studio setting!
