Sanitiare Duralux Sc9180b
By Aaron Fredregill
After much research online and talking to a knowledgeable local vacuum store owner I decided on this model for my home. After several weeks of ownership all I can say is that I love this vacuum. The materials used appear to be quality, sturdy plastics and the fit and finish is very good as well. However, one small thing that was not exactly as described in the research I did on it was the brush roller. Most information on it made it out to be a chromed steel roller with replaceable brushes. What came installed was a non-serviceable wooden brush roller (still a quality piece). The chrome roller would have been a bit nicer for pet hair I think. The sanitaire is very user serviceable because of its commercial intended purpose. It is a bit heavy at 20lbs. but not ridiculous. The features on this vacuum are pretty nice. It has two motors. One motor is dedicated solely to suction and the other is dedicated to the brush roller. The toggle switch is a three-way rocker switch that has positions for off, suction only, and carpet. The suction only position is used for the wand attachment and also for bare floor surfaces. There is also a suction valve that changes between the roller head and the wand so you can completely direct the suction where needed. There is also a switch in line with the roller head so that the brush will not spin when the vacuum is in a stationary position. Because of that, you can run the wand in this position as well. All you do is change the suction valve. One thing worth mentioning is that the wand has a somewhat odd shaped end with a flat spot on one side. Because of this, you will have a hard time using any aftermarket attachments. The main debris passage to the bag is huge. You'd have to get a couple socks past the roller to attempt to clog itOn to performance. Performance is very good. This vacuum cleans my carpet like no other vacuum I have owned before. I have quite a bit of medium pile carpet in my house. I always thought my old vacuum did a decent job of cleaning. But the sanitaire is night and day difference. The sanitaire will stand my carpet up straight with the suction. I broom sweep my bare floors most of the time but I ran the sanitaire over them just to see how it would do. It does good but will leave a few of the heavier pieces behind on a single pass. Usually picks them up a second time over.Overall, I'm very pleased with the purchase. I thought about knocking a star off because of the wooden roller and the funny shape of the wand end, but at this price point (I paid $316 shipped) I would put this thing up against any Dyson and believe it would perform as well as the $1500 Kirbys.
