Rather than get a huge MPG draining cargo bag for the roof, this was the next best option. I also wanted something big enough to handle a huge bag of duck decoys so I don't have to put them in my SUV after I've been out hunting.It comes in parts and you need to put the whole thing together. I did NOT agree with the directions where the head of the bolts were on the outside and the thread/nuts on in the inside. This causes the sharp edges of the threads to point into the tray. I also purchased a waterproof bag for the cargo tray and if I put it in there with the thread pointed in, it could easily tear the bag. I reversed the directions of the bolts and its better now. Put some silicone on the edge of the threads now facing out so anyone walking around the tray doesn't get scraped.The floor of the tray is pretty flimsy and definitely requires you to spread the weight. Putting anything dense on it (like a stump) can probably break the mesh floor, or at least it seems like it could. But since I plan on using it for luggage in a waterproof bag on long trips, I'm not really concerned about this issue.I added some extra reflectors to it for about $5. I'm concerned with someone not seeing it in a dark environment and tripping over it or even a car not seeing it since it is rather low and black.UPDATE: I have used this for about a year. Still no problems other than the occasional getting it scraped when going over steep dips. This is more of a problem of the road and car then the carrier. Used it for long trips from NJ to FL with multiple suitcases. You never know it was there unless you get to check it once in awhile. And certainly never effected gas mileage.

Nice carrier!

This carrier looks slightly different to what is pictured. I'll try to post a picture later. It amazon picture shows two braces on the bottom of the frame. Even the box that the carrier arrived in shows the same picture. Apparently Highland has improved the design. They have added more support (from what I can tell) to the frame pieces on each end of the main support bar and eliminated the pictured braces. It seems to be a much better design.The carrier assembles easily. I did snap off one bolt, but it was easily replaced. It seems to be very sturdy. Obviously, at the center it's very strong. I put my 200 plus pounds on it there and it doesn't budge. I would not stand on either end though. If you're going to load it to it's 500 pound max, weight will need to be evenly distributed. I think it will work well for my planned use. I bought it for tailgating and plan to load a small Honda generator and coolers.Overall, I'm very impressed and happy with this carrier.

The mounted cargo hitch works great. Easy to assemble, and made of very high quality materials. The hitch fits in your current receiver (assuming that you already have worked with trailer hitches before) and viola you have instant cargo space. Get a few bungie cord tie downs and you can haul most anything. Plenty of places to tie down the bungie cords as well. Great value!
