The 1/2" thick band is glued and doweled together to form a continuous band which is 2" tall outside and 1-1/2" tall inside. The bottom is 1/2" thick premium grade maple plywood. After assembly, each natural wood tray goes through a multi-step finish to provide a soft, smooth, natural finish

This items looks great and is very sturdy. Easy to screw to the cabinet as it has a hole in the circle, which is covered with a plug, and you screw it down through there.
