Honest Review Chicco Lullaby XL

I depended extensively on these reviews for my baby gear purchases so I hope to be of some help to others. I will try to be specific. FYI, my baby boy is 6 weeks old as I'm writing this and we have used this pack n play daily. We are first time parents in our late 20's.Assembly: took approx 30 minutes (I assembled without my husband's assistance and I'm not terribly tool oriented). Directions were mostly easy to follow although finding the sleeve to put the rods in the bassinet took some searching.The changing table is not of any use to us. It attaches to the side of the play pen by a zipper and then can hang on the side or be placed on top. When on top it fits securely over the sides of the pack n play and has buckles that can be used to further hold it to the pack n play. I did not feel it was safe to leave on top and put baby in bassinet portion of pack in play and found it a pain to hang it on the side and have to flip it up and hook it on, so we don't use it. If you are looking for a good changing table on your play pen I'd look at some of the graco that simply flip up out of the way.This also comes with a toy bar. It is similar to the activity mats/gyms that you place on the floor. It attachest to the underneath side of the corner of the bassinet/play pen pad (what the baby lays on and the has 4 posts that arch toward the center with 3 places on each to hang toys. It comes with stuffed animals (pretty boring) but we just hang our own more interesting toys and my son really likes to play with these. At night I simply take the majority of the toys off to reduce stimulation but leave the arches hooked on. It does make sheet placement on the mat a little awkward as the rods hook on the bottom so the sheet cannot go around the corners snug and nicely.The vibrating/sound/light machine is a nice feature. It has a remote that can be used, it can be set on voice activated, or on a six minute play time. The vibration is not very strong because the unit clips on the corner and you can not feel strong vibrations on the pad where the baby lays. Definitely not as strong as most bouncers. There is volume control and a nice "soft" glow type light that I really like for checking on the baby at night.A couple notes: this does not fit through a standard doorway while assembled. Also, I have not tried to tear down for travel but the travel case seems to be nice and has wheels for travel purposes. I cannot vouch for how easily it is placed in case though.Overall I feel this is a safe piece of equipment and we use it nightly for my son to sleep in by our bed. I use a mattress bad and sheet over the pad that comes with this unit as it is not very thick for nightly use. I did not purchase another mattress (they are available) and we are doing fine without it. Like I said the changing station could be better designed and the vibrations are a little weak but otherwise we have no complaints. Very attractive unit as well.

Love it, but doesn't fit through doors...

Didn't buy from Amazon, but a baby store here, and I can just say that it is a great thing to have a packn'play (portacot), BUT I would have much preferred one that fits through doors. In case baby falls asleep for the night in this, we would sleep on the couch rather than moving her, risking waking her up. If I had the choice (didn't at the time), I would have gotten the Graco Cuddle Cove playard instead. It has another extra (the rocker seat, infant seat) that I would have loved to have for baby, and it would have made it that much easier to move her at night!! So, I love this cot, but the fact that it is just a little wide and doesn't fit through my doors kind of makes me regret buying it..

The first time assembly took about 30 min... No big deal. It is the subsequent times of packing it up in the car to take it somewhere that is difficult. Each of the four sides has a locking mechanism. You have to lift up and hope that it will lock. My husband and I both spent 20 minutes trying to get the sides to lock so that we could then easily push down the bottom, put the padding in and be set up. This is not the first time to be frustrated with setting it up.I love the red color. Admittingly, that sold it for me. Overall, it worked well as a bassinet when my child was an infant, OR I could use it as a changing table those first few days before deciding that I needed a real changing table. The changing table was way to low for my back. I can't see being able to use it for both as the changing table covers the bassinet part. I just kept my supplies in the bassinet the first week as I was still figuring out life with a baby.I did buy an extra mattress and sheet set from summer infant. I like that because it seems more comfortable than the included pad.The toy thing was difficult to attach so was only used a short time. Never used the music vibrating thing.I rarely put my child in it any more, unless visiting a non child proofed home. I use it as a toy box most the time. For that purpose it works great. I don't see the benefit in the expensive Chico pack n play vs the others that are less money. I think so many others offer basic features for less money. This was probably one of my biggest money wasters when I was pregnant. I have had it 15 months.
