5Easy setup, works in Linux

I used the Startech series mini-PCIe to serial adapters for some machines at work. Setup is as easy as can be and it works great for debugging on laptops, netbooks, etc. It uses an Oxford UART and is supported in Linux. The only tricky part is that you need to tell your OS to route serial port access to MMIO rather than the usual legacy IO ports, but this is standard practice for all PCI <--> serial bridges.Here are some instructions I put together (for Chromium OS) to make this device print kernel messages and enable the login prompt:[...]

Ordered 3 of these, all of them worked as advertised, with 2 serial ports in mini-pci-e form factor which makes them useful for working on modern laptop or netbook type computers
