Product Description

The Striker is light and easy to handle. It has three points of contact by having one hand on the handgrip, the gunstock in your chest and your focusing hand on the lens. The entire kit is infinitely adjustable. You can add a fourth point of contact by adding one of Zacuto Z-Finders to the kit. The Zacuto Gorilla plate attaches to the bottom of your camera using the standard tripod screw hole. The Gorilla plate has a 15mm hole in the bottom which allows you to attach the main rod for the Striker rig. The rig can be freed from the Gorilla plate by flipping the red lever. A tripod plate can be installed on the Gorilla plate for quickly moving from handheld to tripod. The Striker kit can not accommodate a follow focus or matte box as it does not have a baseplate.

5A lightweight and flexible shoulder mount for medium-sized camcorders and DSLRs - Check out the video to see how it works!
By Nathan Andersen
Watch Video Here: http://www.amazon.com/review/RXW8FFSX4M4WJ The Zacuto Striker shoulder mount system offers a convenient and versatile setup that can be tailored to the precise needs of an individual shooter and a specific shooting situation. It's not quite a steadicam, but it does allow the shooter to brace the weight of the camera against a shoulder, and then to balance and support the camera on both sides, making for a total of three points of contact. I find that it tends to limit fatigue and helps me to orient the camera exactly as I like for a long time, whether steady or in motion. As mentioned, this is not a steadicam, and won't do anything to eliminate the telltale signs of walking or running with the camera. When I'm using this, I try to stay mostly still and just pivot my hips or my shoulder - and if I need to move about, I try to do it in long and slow strides, almost like a Tai Chi walk. What that means, though, is that my body turns into a fairly adaptive and flexible tripod. I can pan and tilt but also pivot and glide in short bursts, by taking long and slow steps. I've found that for relatively short periods of time - up to a couple of hours - this can be an extremely effective and convenient way to shoot. Anything longer than that and I go with a tripod or a monopod, because after that I start to get a bit shaky no matter how stable the mount. The system comes with a center pole, a camera mount, a handle grip, and a shoulder support piece. The whole setup can be broken down into its parts for convenient storage and transportation, and each piece can be oriented independently of the others for maximum versatility. I'd recommend adding a quick release mount and plate for even more flexibility, as seen in the video that's linked to this review. You can configure this as you like - but I've found two basic configurations to be most useful. One supports the camera on my right shoulder and I grip the handle with my left hand; the other configuration is more useful when I'm shooting someone sitting down, and then I use the shoulder mount to support the camera on my hip and extend the handle up above the camera to support its weight from above. There's room on here, of course, to mount additional accessories such as microphones and lights - but you'd need to get additional parts from Zacuto to do that. One thing I really like about Zacuto parts is that they're all built to be flexible - even the poles that come with this kit can be lengthened with the purchase of extensions from Zacuto. This set, of course, and all of its family of parts are fairly expensive - and if it wasn't, in my opinion, one of the best and most flexible systems of its kind out there, I'd say it was overpriced. Still, if you're shooting quite a bit, the convenience and flexibility and ease of this setup would be well worth it. I had a chance to borrow one for a documentary shoot over a couple of weeks - shooting with the Canon XF100 you see pictured in the included video - and found it extremely useful. I wish I could justify the cost of getting one for myself. It's well-designed, durable, lightweight and flexible - extremely useful for a wide range of cameras, shooting styles, and shooters.About the video: a quick look at what it looks like and how it works, and how it can be adjusted for a range of needs. The video clips interspersed throughout, other than those of me and the mount, were all shot with my Canon FX100 while mounted on the Zacuto Striker.
