My 16 lb. chihuahua/terrier travels around in this whenever we go into the city. It's one of the few backpack style carriers that fit a dog her size (base of neck to base of tail: 14", shoulder to floor: 11.5"). She fits in there perfectly, even w/o full expansion. I wanted something totally hands free, roomy, comfortable (for both her and me), and discreet--no one at Bloomingdales knew what I had in the backpack. After a few hours, the backpack is still as comfortable as you can get, including the live weight inside. The straps are padded and very wide, which displace weight nicely even if your pet is frantically moving about inside while on the escalator. It's a little difficult to carry a crossbody/shoulder purse at the same time, though. And it can be somewhat of an issue if you have a purse, the P@W, and shopping bags while trying to occupy just one seat on the train. Another drawback is that the double sided comfort mat for the passenger slips around and eventually gets bunched up off to the side b/c there's no way to keep it in place. I wish there were velcro tabs or snaps to anchor it down. I also wish there were more pockets for personal items. The velcro pocket located on the outside lower front area is ok for short, flat leashes--I don't think a retractable leash or a plastic pick up bag dispenser will fit in there. I choose to always keep the removable pet dome in there, even though we've never used it or plan to. It's dead weight, but it makes the backside of the carrier SO much more comfortable. It adds support and cushioning. W/o it, the edge of the floorboard (the piece the dog sits on, used to support the structure) digs into my back. Whether or not you put your laptop in the designated padded slot, if you remove the pet dome, it creates a lot more space if necessary. The pet dome+laptop slot are bundled into a completely separate zippered section from the pet area. I'm very pleased with the quality and features offered. It looks very well-made, and with durable materials to boot. It gives the impression it will last a long time even under heavy usage. I love the strap inside that secures your dog to the backpack. It might be too short if you want your dog to lay down and have a toy size and/or your dog wears a neck collar (vs. a harness). When we first got it, we practiced walking around the house to get her used to it. The front peek-flap was opened all the way and she fell out, but was dangling in the air b/c of the security strap. It would have looked horrific had she been wearing a neck collar instead of a harness. I bought the tan one b/c although it's well-ventilated, we spend time outdoors on sunny days, too.

Overall, the quality of the bag was excellent. I was able to travel with my dog in it, but generally had to expand it to its fullest bc my mini was a little taller than most. The included cage was relatively useless to me bc it was too low but is a nice feature if you have a smaller dog.I dont get my use out of my bag anymore bc he didn't like how small it was unless it was expanded fully but I still think the bag is probably perfect for most. I wouldn't recommend it for anyone with a pub bigger than 15 lbs and should be fairly stocky/short.

This is brilliant!

This product is practical, functional, strong and nicely designed. With this combination of an expandable rucksack and a folding dome, my dog and I can go to and stay at more places more easily, therefore more frequently, than before. My dog willingly and happily enters the rucksack as well as the dome, and comfortably stays in there. This is definitely one of the items that I should have bought sooner!
